Council OKs up to $80,000 for Habitat home at 930 South Second Street using 2024 consortium funds

Thomas Scare, of the Lafayette Housing Authority, presented an agreement between the Lafayette Housing Consortium and Habitat for Humanity to use 2024 grant funds for a home at 930 South Second Street. Scare said the document would provide up to $80,000 for construction and direct homebuyer assistance and that legal staff had reviewed and approved the agreement.
Scare and councilmembers discussed rising construction costs and program requirements. Scare said some federal and program requirements—particularly energy-efficiency measures and radon mitigation—have increased construction costs and the consortium is requiring those items in the homes it funds. He said the consortium had approved four new houses and funding for two rehabs for the coming year, for a total of six units.
A motion to approve the agreement was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
