Council approves three funding increases for Habitat for Humanity homes on North Seventh Street

The Lafayette Housing Authority and council approved three amendments increasing Habitat for Humanity subsidies from prior amounts up to $60,000 each for homes at 1002, 1006 and 1010 North Seventh Street to cover higher construction costs, radon mitigation and 2021 IECC compliance; disbursement deadlines were extended to mid- or late June.
Thomas Scare of the Lafayette Housing Authority presented three similar amendments to agreements with Habitat for Humanity for homes under construction on North Seventh Street. Each amendment increases the authority’s funding contribution to the Habitat projects to $60,000 to address rising construction costs, radon mitigation and compliance with 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) standards required by HUD for HOME-funded projects.
Scare said the three homes are adjacent and were started last fall; the funding increases will benefit the future homeowners, particularly for radon mitigation in a known high-radon area. Two of the agreements extend the final disbursement date for HOME dollars to June 30; the third amendment extends closeout to June 15 because that unit is closer to completion.
Council members moved, seconded and approved each amendment without recorded opposition. Staff noted a clerical error in the memorandum on one amendment (a June 30 date that should read June 15) and corrected it on the record before approval.
