Sergio Carvillo, who operates a dog-grooming business at 2824 East 170 Third Street, asked the board March 13 to waive a late fee assessed after he missed an extended payment deadline. Carvillo said he had been ill and bedridden for several weeks and returned with funds to pay the license but was told late fees had already been assessed.
Board members said Carvillo had previously been granted an extension and that staff had provided more time than normally afforded. Members said they expected him to have paid in the extended window or to have contacted the city to request further accommodation; they expressed sympathy but declined to waive the fee. The board took a formal motion to deny the waiver request and voted in favor of denial.
Board members encouraged Carvillo to either keep the business and pay the assessed fees or to complete a closure form in the controller’s office if he intends to cease operations. The board did not order any additional penalties but recorded the formal denial of the waiver request.
