Hammond City’s Board of Upcourse and Safety on March 20 approved an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the Hammond Department of Redevelopment to transfer numerous vacant city-owned properties for an infill housing program.
Why it matters: the transfers are intended to supply properties to a city-led infill housing initiative to encourage new housing construction on vacant lots throughout Hammond.
A staff presenter said the properties are vacant and will be offered to the redevelopment department’s infill housing project, and asked the board to approve the IGA in substantial conformity because the city had not yet run the document by Redevelopment staff (Mister Westland or Ms. Taylor). The board approved the IGA “in substantial conformity” with the understanding that any required changes after redevelopment review will be reported back to the board.
Board action: motion to approve the IGA in substantial conformity carried by voice; the board directed staff to advise the board if Redevelopment requests changes after its review.
