KOKOMO, Ind. — The Kokomo City Board of Public Works and Safety on March 5 approved a series of routine actions including permission for city crews to enter three properties for nuisance abatement, a contract extension for the city’s 2025 crack-and-seal program, a $20,000 loan to a local restaurant from a USDA revolving loan fund and claims totaling $3,532,558.96.
Board president opened the meeting and the board first approved minutes from its Feb. 26 meeting by voice vote. Chelsea, a city staff member who presented the nuisance-abatement memorandum, told the board the properties listed had been abated by the city but remained in violation and requested permission for city crews to enter the properties to remove the listed items at 1701 South Union Street, 1808 North Wabash Avenue and 1616 Columbus Avenue. A board member moved to grant permission; the motion was seconded and carried.
Clint Vanatter, Kokomo City street superintendent, recommended the board accept a contract extension with Pavement Solutions Inc. for the city’s crack-and-seal program for the 2025 construction season. The extension sets a unit price of $0.30 per pound and limits the work to a not-to-exceed total of $149,999 under the same specifications and contract terms used in 2024. A board member moved to approve the extension; the motion was seconded and carried.
Kalindi Shaw, a development specialist, reported that on Feb. 20 the Revolving Loan Fund Board recommended a $20,000 loan to Amazing Thai LLC from the USDA Emerging Business Revolving Loan Fund. The recommended loan carries a 60-month term, a fixed 4% interest rate and monthly payments. The development department requested the Board of Public Works and Safety approve the loan and authorize the board president to execute loan documents after they are signed by Potomin Redfern, the sole member of Amazing Thai LLC. A board member moved to approve the loan; the motion was seconded and carried.
The board also approved claims totaling $3,532,558.96 by voice vote and adjourned.
The actions were routine and passed on unanimous voice votes; no public comments were recorded on the listed agenda items.
