DENTON — At its Feb. 11 meeting Denton ISD’s board of trustees recognized district counselors, student performers and a community arts partner.
The district honored counseling teams from six campuses with the CREST award; staff said this marks the district’s 14th straight year with at least one campus honored. The honored campuses included Rodriguez Middle School, Strickland Middle School, Harpool Middle School, Sam Houston Elementary, Hodge Elementary and Gonzales School for Young Children. District presenters named counselors and principals associated with the awards and invited staff and some students to the dais for photos.
The board also recognized four students selected to the Texas Dance Educators Association All-State dance team, representing each of the district’s comprehensive high schools (Braswell, Denton, Geyer and Ryan high schools). District presenters named students and their dance directors and invited them forward for recognition.
Finally, the board spotlighted the Denton Black Film Festival as this year’s community-recognition honoree; district presenters noted the festival’s collaboration with the district through adopt-a-school activities, art and essay contests, school-supply drives and partnership events. The board congratulated festival volunteers Carrie and Linda Eady for their work with district students.
The recognitions preceded the meeting’s business agenda and were presented to celebrate staff, students and community partners.
