DENTON, Texas — At the start of its April 22 meeting, the Denton ISD Board of Trustees recognized two items: a student academic achievement and a community donation.
The board honored Benjamin Marshall, a junior at Geyer High School, for qualifying for the American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME), the district said. The AIME is a timed, 15‑question math contest administered to top scorers on the American Mathematics Competitions; qualifying places a student among the nation’s highest performers and is used in the selection pipeline for international math competitions.
The board also accepted a $35,000 gift from CoServ to the Denton Public School Foundation. Superintendent‑level remarks credited the foundation with having distributed $151,950 across 145 scholarships and grants last fall and said the new donation will be used for teacher and student grants and scholarships.
Trustees invited the student and representatives from CoServ to the dais and thanked donors and educators. No formal board action beyond the consent‑agenda acceptance of standard items and the welcome was recorded for the recognitions.
