The Vidor High School Pirate Players will perform in the UIL One‑Act Play state finals May 19 in Austin after advancing through district, bi‑district, area and region contests, a student leader told the Vidor ISD board Monday.
Gabby Spencer, president of the Pirate Players, spoke on behalf of theater director Stacy Webb and said Vidor High was one of eight 4A schools to advance to state out of more than 200 schools that entered the 4A division. ‘‘This means that we are officially in the top 4% of the 4A theater programs in Texas,’’ Spencer said.
Spencer reviewed recent awards and placements: district champions (best performer Alexia White; technician Peyton Songe), bi‑district second place, area champions, and region second place with named student awards for performers and technicians. The students will perform May 19 at the Austin ISD Performing Arts Center; Spencer said the Pirate Players perform second in session 1, which starts at 3 p.m., and encouraged the community to attend.
Board members and the audience recognized the students on stage and praised their work. The recognition was ceremonial; no board action was required.
