Vidor Independent School District trustees on Monday approved routine budget transfers and established a new budget line for an approximately $8,283,000 food service grant the district had secured, administration said.
Administration told trustees the transfers included previously authorized purchases — Chromebooks and a CTE electrical project for the welding shop — and the new grant account reflects reimbursement activity already completed. ‘‘She'd already spent the money. It was, you had to use local vendors and purchase things from them, and then we were reimbursed,’’ an administrator said about the food grant reimbursements.
The agenda memo listed internal transfers to consolidate funds and to record items approved at previous meetings. The board approved the transfers on a motion by Mr. Camp with a second by Mr. White; the motion carried 7‑0.
Trustees asked whether the food grant had specific spending restrictions; administration said the grant was for local foods and likely included meat products but that Miss Benoit — the food services staff member who secured the grant — would provide exact allowable uses. The board recorded the budget action so the district could document the grant and subsequent reimbursements in its accounting records.
