The board then approved a motion to move $259,000 from the construction fund balance to the operating budget to cover the roofing work and separately approved budget amendment No. 5. The budget amendment includes two parts discussed in the meeting: recognizing a $26,000 donation to an intermediate campus for a sensory-related item and the transfer to cover the roof work.
Motions and votes: A motion to approve the roofing work was made by Mister Borthers and seconded by Miss Harrington; the motion carried by voice vote. A subsequent motion to move the funds and to approve budget amendment No. 5 was made by Miss Harrington and seconded by Mister Boerner; the motion carried 7-0.
District staff said the quotes were for 30-year commercial-grade shingles and that the administrators were still awaiting one remaining quote when the board voted; the authorized ceiling was set to accommodate any final bid within that range. The roof work had been described as unexpected maintenance for this school year.
The board handled the roof authorization before finalizing the budget amendment because staff had recommended addressing the roofing need promptly and then returning to finalize the budget action.
