Trustees announced the formation of a community relations ad hoc committee and reported on the group’s first meeting, listing early priorities that include measuring website and social-media metrics, developing a fact-versus-fiction page to combat misinformation, planning listening sessions and creating a shared calendar of public events.
The committee includes trustees, the board president and a student representative, Hudson Campbell (student rep), and met for the first time on Feb. 14. The committee adopted a mission statement to “foster inclusive collaborative communication” between the school board and stakeholders and said it would track communications metrics to guide outreach.
Members discussed concrete next steps: inviting the district communications representative (Tara) to a future meeting; compiling a living document that logs recurring community concerns; considering board highlights emails or “board asked questions” responses on the district website; and measuring the return on outreach efforts. The committee plans to be visible at school events, explore branded identification for trustees at public events, and solicit partnerships and liaisons with school leadership.
A student representative offered to act as a conduit from principal advisory groups to the board so issues that surface in those groups can be brought forward. Committee members said they will propose a calendar of public events and begin collecting metrics at the next meeting scheduled for March 21.
