La Crosse’s Board of Public Works on May 12 referred a MetroNet request for a street-privilege permit covering communications work in a neighborhood bounded by George, Summer, Clinton and Island streets for one week to allow the applicant to provide updated plans.
The referral follows board concern that plan sheets showed conduit or lines behind sidewalks and possibly on private property, rather than exclusively within the public right-of-way.
A MetroNet representative, speaking for a supervisor who was not present, told the board they did not have the project schedule on hand but said they could provide a projection and updated plans. “I don’t have the information directly on me. But I can get that to you because we do have a projection schedule,” the representative said.
Director Gallagher and other board members noted several plan sheets appeared to show routing behind sidewalks and into yards; Gallagher said staff would follow up to confirm whether easements were required or whether the plans needed correction. Council President Dickinson asked whether a one-week delay would be sufficient for the applicant to update plans; the applicant agreed it should be adequate.
Council President Dickinson moved to refer the permit for one week to get updated plans; Director Gallagher seconded. The board voted to refer the item for one week. Staff and the applicant are expected to return with corrected plan sheets and scheduling information at the next meeting.
The board’s referral does not approve construction or authorize MetroNet to begin work; it postpones formal action pending verification that all conduit and facilities are located within permitted right-of-way or that proper easements are secured.
