City planning staff provided an update on the zoning and subdivision code rewrite underway, outlining public outreach materials, early drafts of a public survey and plans for stakeholder meetings.
Planner Tim Ackland said staff had posted early drafts to increase transparency and would bring the consultant team in person to the next meeting to present background data and analysis. Ackland said staff is compiling a stakeholder list—developers, architects, engineers and others who routinely use city processes—and plans targeted one-on-one or small-group sessions to identify procedural hurdles and possible reforms.
Commissioner Yeager asked that staff prioritize stakeholder engagement to address burdensome development processes. Ackland confirmed that the process intends to examine both code language and procedural streamlining so projects reach finish line more predictably and with lower developer cost. Mayor/Commission Chair thanked Ackland and staff for leading the comprehensive plan update and the zoning rewrite effort and noted this was his final meeting as mayor presiding over the commission.
Staff said they expect to release broader public materials and the survey mid-month and to have consultant presentations and public sessions during April’s housing week events.
