Commission approves Nature Place greenhouse at Myrick Park; staff to confirm exact siting

The Board of Park Commissioners on May 15 approved a Nature Place proposal to place a prefabricated greenhouse outside the Nature Place building at Myrick Park and asked staff to coordinate final siting with the applicant.
Tammy Myers (staff) described the project as grant-funded and prefabricated, and said the applicant proposed three potential locations with a preferred site closest to the water in the existing garden. “Their desired location is labeled as location number 1, the most suitable closest to the water in the already existing garden space,” Myers said. Commissioners discussed leaving site selection to staff and the applicant; Commissioner Young moved to approve and staff indicated they concurred that location number 1 was suitable.
Why it matters: the greenhouse is an addition to a city park site and will require all normal city and county permits; the board’s approval was for the concept and location coordination rather than construction permits.
Outcome: the motion to approve was made, seconded and passed unanimously. Staff will work with the Nature Place on permitting and final siting decisions.
