The Watchung Hills Regional High School District personnel committee presented a three‑year Comprehensive Equity Plan (CEP) and needs assessment at the May 13 board meeting following state guidance requiring districts to develop multi‑year equity plans.
Committee members said the affirmative action team used New Jersey Department of Education data to assess needs and identified two primary areas requiring action: first, assessment data from the NJSLA and district GPA analyses showed an achievement gap in math and English between students with disabilities and students without disabilities; second, discipline records indicated that male students and minority students are overrepresented in detentions, suspensions and expulsions.
Members reviewed action plans designed to address both needs; Miss Carroll (identified in committee remarks) summarized the strategies the team developed. The CEP will cover three school years — 2025–26 through 2027–28 — and the committee presented the plan with a recommendation for board action.
The personnel committee also discussed routine personnel business including annual reviews and renewals for tenured teachers, support staff and part‑time bus drivers. At the May board meeting the board added renewals for faculty and staff to the agenda for action.
Committee members said they would continue monitoring outcomes, with planned action steps and data reviews to measure progress on the CEP objectives.
