The House Committee on Transportation voted on April 1 to advance HR136 HD1 and HCR142 HD1, which urge the Hawaii Tourism Authority and the Department of Transportation to expand the KAHEA Airport greetings program to display Keiki art in all neighbor‑island airports.
Caroline Anderson of the Hawaii Tourism Authority provided comments at the hearing. No additional registered testifiers offered testimony on the record. Committee members asked no substantive questions during the hearing.
The committee adopted the recommendation to move HR136 HD1 and HCR142 HD1 out as is. The record notes the presence of members with Representative Cochran and Representative Pierrick recorded as excused and absent respectively; the chair announced that members registered “reservations” but the chair’s recommendation was adopted. The measures are advisory requests to state agencies and do not in themselves appropriate funds or create a new mandate.
The KAHEA Airport greetings program displays community art in airports; the resolutions ask that the Department of Transportation and the Hawaii Tourism Authority expand visibility for children’s (Keiki) artwork in neighbor‑island facilities. The hearing record shows limited debate and no amendments. The committee recessed briefly before reconvening and taking the votes.
