Kent County PAB plans outreach push for annual report; targets churches and town events

At its Feb. 5 meeting, the Kent County Police Accountability Board discussed additions to its annual report focused on community awareness and outreach, and asked members to submit final suggestions before the report is finalized.

Board members proposed producing an information sheet or flyer that explains the board’s role and work, and suggested modest promotional items (for example, inexpensive handouts) to distribute at events. Members discussed targeting outreach to towns the board has visited (Rock Hall and Chestertown) and expanding to other communities mentioned in the meeting, including Millington, Galena and Betterton.

Several members suggested asking local civic groups and churches to invite PAB members for short presentations. One board member recommended reaching out to two larger African American congregations — identified in the meeting as Coleman’s Corner and Mount Olive — as possible locations where a presentation could reach a larger audience.

Members also discussed returning to town‑level “meet your officer” and National Night Out activities so residents, including children, can meet officers in non‑enforcement settings. The board said it already documents ride‑alongs, community meetings and outreach events in its annual report and plans to include those items in the upcoming filing.

The chair asked members to send any additional material for the overdue year‑end report by email to allow staff to finalize the document. The board said it has previously distributed the annual report to county commissioners and town councils and intends to continue that practice after the report is completed.
