Board hears facilities report: heating issues resolved, roof, clocks and Wi‑Fi trials noted

The Ridgefield Park Board of Education’s buildings and grounds committee reported on Feb. 19 that the district has resolved several heating issues, but the high school requires additional balancing work for classroom spaces.
Trustee Cooney, who presented the buildings and grounds report, said "Mister Eagle reviewed the current heating status with the district, and it has been resolved," while noting there remain balancing issues in the high school’s academic wing. The committee also reported that ROD grants are progressing toward bid openings and the district will put projects out to bid to compare costs with available capital account funds.
The district architect advised the board that the high-school academic wing roof is past its useful life at more than 25 years and needs replacement. Separately, the committee reported a trial of Wi‑Fi infrastructure ahead of state testing to identify and address potential issues. The buildings and grounds report also noted the high-school clocks and bell system are beyond repair and need replacement; the system was described as more than 40 years old.
Why it matters: work on roofing, HVAC balancing and testing of the Wi‑Fi infrastructure can affect school operations and require capital funding decisions. The ROD grants and forthcoming bids will determine actual project costs relative to reserves reported in the audit.
