County authorizes specifications for Georgia Street overlay; aligns with city widening plans near Loop 335

Randall County Commissioners Court approved May 13 the specifications to solicit bids for the 2025 Georgia Street overlay project, a separate procurement from the Bushland Road project, covering Georgia Street from Rockwell Road north to an area south of Loop 335.
Staff said the project will use approximately 8,500 tons of material and follow similar specifications as the Bushland Road overlay. The county will release the bid documents May 15 and accept proposals through June 3. "We just decided to separate the two projects to allow the opportunity for their vendors possibly work at the same time," a county presenter said.
Commissioners asked whether the county’s work would align with city widening plans north of Loop 335; staff said the city’s project ends at the loop and the county’s overlay will provide a matching surface on the county side.
The court approved the specifications unanimously. Staff will return with bids and a recommendation after submittals are received.
