Newton County Commissioners Court authorized contracts with Trail and Associates to provide grant-administration services for two grant-funded projects: the Community Wildfire Defense Grant and a TDEM-backed generator project for the Mauriceville Utility District.
Staff explained the county had completed procurement and selected Trail and Associates to administer the Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CO-25-041). The court was told the grant was funded and that the administrative contract will complete the wildfire defense plan and allow the county to compete for equipment, personnel and other funds needed to implement the plan. The administrative contract was discussed as a follow-up to earlier grant activities; staff said an earlier $145 payment covered execution of the wildfire defense plan but not the larger implementation funding that may flow to the county.
The court also authorized a separate Trail and Associates contract to administer TDEM contract DR-4485-0200 for the Mauriceville Utility District generator project; staff said the Mauriceville district is funding a required 10% match per a memorandum of understanding.
Motions to authorize execution of both contracts were made and seconded; the court approved both authorizations by voice vote. Staff said Trail and Associates would provide grant administration and related paperwork assistance to ensure compliance and to facilitate use of awarded funds.
