South Plainfield students present projects, receive awards; district posts program and registration updates

Kennedy School student council delivered a presentation and high school students were recognized for bilingual proficiency and extracurricular awards. The district also reminded families that preschool registration and summer-enrichment information are available.
Elementary and high school students were the focus of several presentations and recognitions at the South Plainfield Board of Education meeting on April 4.
At the start of the meeting, Kennedy School student council officers described school events and fundraising work, including a home-run-derby fundraiser that raised more than $6,000 toward a new playground. "As fourth graders, Jack, Matthew, and I are really lucky to have the opportunity to lead our school as the student council executive board," the Kennedy student council members said during their presentation.
High school staff recognized 13 students who earned the New Jersey State Seal of Biliteracy; the presentation noted one student earned the award in French and the remainder earned it in Spanish. The district also recognized students and clubs for statewide and national competition results in choir, gaming/cyber team, debate, HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), Model United Nations and robotics.
Districtwide updates included reminders that preschool registration is open for children turning 3 or 4 by Oct. 1, 2025; the district reported more than 100 preschool applications had been submitted. Summer programs and enrichment opportunities were noted, including Title I summer music and credit-recovery seats for high school students. Upcoming events listed in the meeting included theater week (Friday, April 11), a math competition (April 16), career day (April 17) and a high school talent show (June 6). The high school also announced NJSLA state testing scheduled April 29-May 2 and other seasonal events.
The board thanked students, staff and volunteers for the presentations and extracurricular advising. There were no formal votes tied to the recognitions and informational items.
