Tatlock Field bid comes in about $1 million over estimate; district to reallocate funds

The operations update also said the high-school handicap ramp project has been awarded at about $185,000 and is scheduled to start June 19. An asbestos tile-removal bid at Brayton Elementary is due May 29, with work expected to take roughly three weeks in June. Jefferson Playground construction is set to begin June 19; the contractor notified the district that its equipment price decreased by $15,000. The district also plans summer deep-cleaning at both the middle school and the high school following significant construction work.
On Tatlock Field specifically, the committee reported that the low bidder (identified as GPC in the committee notes) submitted a bid—recorded in the committee summary as $3,700,000—that exceeded earlier cost estimates by about $1 million. The committee agreed to shift about $1,000,000 originally allocated for middle-school project work to cover the Tatlock overage. District staff said the Tatlock-field work is intended to begin in July and that the district will continue discussions with the City of Summit about next steps and related bathroom facilities.
The operations report also noted the district is working with the city to finalize timing for ROD (School Facilities) grants and must demonstrate state-required availability of matching funds no later than June of the calendar year.
No formal contract award beyond the ramp bid was presented for final board action at the meeting; the operations committee provided the update and identified funding reallocation as the intended approach to cover the Tatlock bid increase.
