Hampshire County proclaims March as American Red Cross Month

The Hampshire County Commission on March 11 unanimously approved a proclamation recognizing March as American Red Cross Month and praised the organization’s volunteer-driven disaster, preparedness and blood-donation work.
Deborah Fleming, executive director of the Shenandoah Valley chapter, and Josh Mongold, board chair, asked the commission to declare March as Red Cross Month and to encourage local participation in blood drives, volunteer recruitment and preparedness activities. Fleming and Mongold described the chapter’s recent work: collecting more than 16,000 units of blood in the previous year, assisting about 200 families after disasters, installing nearly 1,500 smoke alarms, and training thousands in life-saving skills.
Commissioner Mansell moved to adopt the proclamation; the motion was seconded and commissioners voted in favor. "We, the commissioners of Hampshire County, hereby recognize the month of March in honor of all those who lead their hearts to serve people in need," the proclamation reads.
The commission signed the proclamation electronically; the Red Cross representatives said they did not require the signed hard copy during the meeting.
