Hampshire County OKs temporary budget move so Historic Landmarks can rent Taggart Hall space

Historic Landmarks representative Mrs. Shaw told commissioners the board missed the budget-change deadline in March but found an opportunity to rent space at Taggart Hall for $200 a month plus $100 a month for shared utilities — a combined $300 per month or $3,600 through the balance of the fiscal year from an existing $5,000 appropriation. “We were hoping to request some dollars from this year to pay maybe even up to December,” Shaw said, adding that the arrangement would let the board house artifacts and documents in one place and avoid storing materials at her home.
President Eglanger moved to grant the board part of the request immediately to start the rental; Commissioner Breuer seconded the motion and the commission voted in favor. Eglanger and other commissioners said they supported the small, initial request but asked the board to return if it needs additional funds in the next budget cycle.
Why this matters: commissioners framed the move as a modest use of existing local funds to preserve county artifacts and improve the landmarks board’s operations. The commission noted that any larger budget revisions would require a future agenda item and formal action.
