Several residents from Charlotte Drive addressed the Ferguson City Council on March 18 to express concern about an auto body business they identified as operating at 3776 Purcell Road and its apparent expansion into the adjacent neighborhood.
Resident Marcus Anderson said the business had bought two properties, demolished at least one and was parking vehicles on a residential lot. “They have bought 2 properties, demolished 1, built, and are parking vehicles on a residential property,” Anderson told the council, adding the activity was “hurting our property values.”
Neighbors said the company demolished multiple houses next to the business and that one of the demolished properties lies inside the platted subdivision and is zoned residential. Paul Kukenmaster said the parcel that was torn down next is within the residential subdivision and asked the council and planning staff not to allow a rezoning to commercial without neighborhood involvement.
Resident Melinda Bailey said contractors associated with the business had run over a yard guard post in front of her property and that she had confronted them without a satisfactory response. City staff collected addresses and the clerk said the information would be passed to the city manager and an inspector would be sent to the site.
Why it matters: Residents asked for transparency on demolition permits, land‑use changes and whether the city would allow commercial expansion into a residential block. Council members and staff said they would follow up through the city manager’s office and planning processes. One resident requested that if a commercial zoning change is proposed it come through the planning commission and the council with notice to neighbors.
Ending: City staff told residents the clerk would forward the addresses to the city manager and that someone would be sent to inspect the site; council members suggested planning and zoning review if a change of use or rezoning is pursued.
