Hendrick Hudson board approves Lauren Collins as assistant superintendent after deliberative search; one member votes no

The Hendrick Hudson Central School District Board of Education approved terms and conditions for Lauren Collins to become the district’s assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and assessment following a multi-stage search and finalist interviews.

The board’s action on April 22 followed a presentation from district leadership describing the search process used to fill the post vacated by the retiring assistant superintendent. Dr. Garcia, who outlined the search timeline to the board, said the posting opened November 1, 2024, and that the process included surveys and focus groups of teachers, administrators, parents and community members to create a leadership profile used in candidate evaluation. “We had 105 applicants for this position,” Dr. Garcia said, and the cabinet and a stakeholder committee participated in narrowing candidates to finalists that the superintendent then recommended to the board.

During the board’s discussion, one board member described the district’s recent leadership turnover and said stability in literacy and math leadership was essential. That member said, “I’m gonna be voting no,” and later cast the dissenting vote during a roll-call.

A roll-call was conducted for the motion on Collins’s terms. The motion passed and the board chair congratulated Collins; she addressed the board saying she was grateful for the opportunity and that she had grown to “love this family” since joining the district three years earlier.
