Dover students honored after selection for Young Writers publications

The Dover Public School District board opened its meeting by recognizing students selected for publication in Young Writers contests and magazines.
At Eastover Elementary, students in Miss Melissa Matarazzo’s classes had pieces chosen for publication in the Mini Sagas Young Writers Scary Tales Contest; the board read aloud the names of fifth- and sixth-grade winners and invited families forward for photographs and a small recognition token.
At Dover High School, eight students from a dual-enrollment creative-writing class taught by Miss Deborah Southwood Smith had 100-word pieces accepted for publication in a Young Writers magazine. Miss Southwood Smith said the class is a dual-enrollment offering and that the published pieces are on display in the school lobby.
Superintendent Mister Jaime and board members thanked the teachers and students. The board celebrated the recognition as a district example of student creativity and teacher support.
