On school safety, Jaime said North Dover Elementary recently received new locking mechanisms at its vestibule to add an extra layer of protection for students and staff. The superintendent thanked the buildings and facilities staff for identifying a “cost‑effective solution” and said the hardware installation was completed with administrative coordination.
Jaime also described new communications efforts: weekly “Friday Focus” videos from the superintendent’s office, a district WhatsApp channel the administration said is used for near‑daily updates, and a monthly door‑recap message for families. At a board question about WhatsApp enrollment, Jaime said the district will resend sign‑up links and verify that a QR code to join is posted on the website.
The superintendent announced the district will pilot an AI platform called Magic School for classroom use beginning in February. Jaime said the platform will be introduced under “strict guidelines” and listed approved and prohibited uses: approved uses include teacher‑approved idea generation, practice problems, accessibility features (speech‑to‑text and translation) and scaffolded outlines; prohibited uses include using AI to complete assignments or tests without authorization, submitting AI content without citation, or producing media in another person’s likeness without consent. Jaime said teachers will receive guidance on appropriate classroom management for AI and that the DMS and DHS student handbooks will be updated with AI policy language.
Jaime also highlighted student programming successes: Dover High School’s esports team is tied for first place in its group and the counseling office reported 85 college acceptances and approximately $146,000 awarded in merit scholarships during a recent Instant Decision Day.
Board response: members thanked administration for the detailed goals update and asked for follow‑up on WhatsApp enrollment numbers and timing for survey results; Jaime said data and next steps will be provided to the board as the district finalizes goals and program planning.
