Board approves multiple personnel motions, interim administrators and two policy adoptions following executive session
Summary
The Barnegat board approved a slate of personnel actions in executive session, including medical leave, interim assignments, transfers, revised job descriptions and staff renewals; the board also approved first-reading/adoption of two personnel policies.
After an executive session on finance, budget and personnel, the Barnegat Township Board of Education on April 29 approved a set of personnel motions and policy actions.
The board voted to approve a paid medical leave for an employee (Employee ID 5034) from April 14 through July 11, 2025, and to appoint Michelle Johns as interim principal of Collins School from April 29 through June 30, 2025, at a per-diem rate of $125. The board also approved John Fiorentino as interim director of special education for the same dates at the same per-diem rate.
The board rescinded an earlier April 9 motion transferring Dan Gunderson from director of student services to district vice principal, and subsequently approved a revised transfer moving Gunderson from director of student services to director of special projects along with a revised job description for that role. The board also approved a revised job description for supervisor of guidance and authorized administrative overtime for Christina Ozello and Mary Camerato to provide additional building support at Collins School (not to exceed 25 hours between April 29 and June 30, 2025).
The board accepted the April 2025 HIB (harassment, intimidation and bullying) report as presented in executive session and approved staff renewals for the 2025-26 school year (with several members recorded as abstaining on specific renewal items during roll call). The board additionally approved the first reading and/or adoption of policy 3.124 (teaching staff members) and policy 4.124 (support staff members).
Votes and abstentions: the motion bundle of 12 new-business personnel and policy items was approved after roll call. Several members recorded no votes or abstentions on some numbered items: the meeting record shows individual yes/no/abstain calls for items 1 through 12 and for committee motion bundles (personnel committee motions 119) earlier in the agenda. For transparency the board read each numbered motion into the record before taking the roll-call vote.
Why it matters: The personnel approvals fill temporary leadership gaps, revise supervisory roles and confirm staff for the next school year. Approving the HIB report and renewing staff contracts are standard board responsibilities that directly affect school operations and student services.
