District says state eligibility changes mean free breakfast likely at all schools next year

"Due to changes about how the state identifies qualifying student qualifying students, our district has reached the threshold for providing a breakfast program, at more schools," said Mick, a board member who reported for the finance and operations committee. He said Roberts currently hosts a breakfast program and that the district would add programs at UES, Williams and the high school; because the program would operate at four of six schools, the district would provide breakfast at all schools for clarity and consistency.
The board said the expanded program would offer free or reduced-price breakfast for students who qualify and would be available to students at all schools. Administration staff are exploring implementation details, communications and logistics; no formal board vote was taken at this meeting on a program rollout timeline.
Committee members characterized the change as a response to updated state guidance rather than a new local policy initiative. The board asked administration to return with more details on logistics and timing as plans solidify.
