Board says Sept. 16 referendum on school projects is moving forward; state review still pending

The Moorestown Township Board of Education told residents it is continuing to prepare for a facilities referendum on Sept. 16 but cannot finalize the ballot questions until the state completes its review of eight applications and provides preliminary determinations of reimbursable costs.
"We are pushing forward towards, September 16 referendum vote," said Mister Villanueva, a board member. He told the board that state feedback on the eight most recent applications is the missing piece the board needs to determine how to group projects and whether to present one, two or three ballot questions to voters.
Board members said the timeline for state responses is uncertain. The board noted a 60-day deadline for submitting referendum questions to the state before the Sept. 16 vote; if the state response is delayed into July, the board will likely hold a public special meeting (because regular July meetings are not typical) to vote on the referendum questions in time to meet that deadline.
The communications and outreach effort around the referendum is underway. The board's community ambassador initiative and contracted communications strategist have been working on targeted outreach to reach voters who are not current parents, and board members said they will increase public information sessions as the election approaches.
No formal ballot questions or final cost estimates were presented at the meeting; board members emphasized the district is still awaiting state guidance. The board encouraged community members to attend outreach events and asked residents to submit suggested community events where district representatives could present information.
