Summary
At the May 6 board meeting the Carteret County Public School Foundation announced a rebrand to Carteret Education Foundation and said it has invested $2.7 million in the district; the board also adopted a resolution proclaiming May 2025 as Teacher Appreciation Week and recognized students selected for Governor's School and CTE competitions.
Erica Jones, development director of the Carteret County Public School Foundation, told the Carteret County Board of Education on May 6 the foundation will now operate as the Carteret Education Foundation and unveiled a new logo.
"The Carteret County Public School Foundation will now be operating as the Carteret Education Foundation," Jones said in presenting the rebrand. She said the foundation has invested $2,700,000 into Carteret County Schools over its 25-year history to support classroom innovation, crisis response, educator development and scholarships.
Jones described the rebrand as reflecting a broader mission to "support public education in its entirety in the county and the people that make it thrive," and said the foundation had expanded its role since 2018 responding to natural disasters, staffing shortages, housing costs and teacher burnout.
The board also recognized students who placed at state-level career and technical education competitions and those selected for the Governor's School program. Presenters named students from West Carteret High School, Croatan High School and East Carteret High School who placed in SkillsUSA, FBLA and DECA competitions or were selected for Governor's School in disciplines including natural sciences, choral and instrumental music. The transcript lists student names presented by staff and advisers.
The board adopted a resolution proclaiming May 2025 as Teacher Appreciation Week. Board member Miss Wheatley moved to approve the resolution; Miss Chadwick seconded the motion and the transcript records "All in favor." The resolution text, as read in the meeting, praised teachers' roles and encouraged community expression of appreciation.
Why this matters: the foundation's rebrand and the dollar figure reported highlight private philanthropic support for district programs; the teacher-appreciation resolution is a formal board recognition of educators and part of the board's consent actions for the meeting.
