The Irvine City Council met in a special session Jan. 14 and convened to a closed session to consider labor negotiations, an existing lawsuit, real property negotiations and anticipated litigation. When the council reconvened, City Attorney Jeff Melching said, "There was no reportable action this afternoon."
The closed session items listed by Melching included: a conference with labor negotiators under Government Code section 54957.6 involving several employee organizations; a conference with legal counsel on existing litigation under Government Code section 54956.9 concerning Orange County Advocates for Transparency v. City of Irvine (Orange County Superior Court case number as read into the record); a conference with real property negotiators under Government Code section 54956.8 concerning portions of assessor's parcel number 58076504; and a conference with legal counsel on anticipated litigation under Government Code section 54956.9(d)(2) or (3).
City Attorney Jeff Melching read the names of the agency negotiators listed for the labor item as City Manager Oliver Chi, Assistant City Manager Brian King, Deputy Director of Human Resources Michelle Riske and Director of Public Safety Michael Kent. The employee organizations identified were the Associated Supervisory Administrative Personnel, Irvine City Employees Association, Irvine Professional Employees Association, Irvine Police Association and Irvine Police Management Association. For the real property item the negotiating parties named were the City of Irvine and Thomas Miller, chief real estate officer for the County of Orange; the subject was described as price and terms of payment.
The city clerk announced there were no public comments on the closed-session items. The council recessed to closed session with an expected duration of about one and one-half hours; the council reconvened at 4:22 a.m., at which time Melching reported no reportable action.
After the report, Council member Carroll moved to adjourn the special meeting; the motion was seconded by Council member Blue. The city clerk conducted a roll-call vote with the following results: Council member Carroll — yes; Council member Goh — yes; Council member Liu — yes; Council member Mai — yes; Council member Trezeder — yes; Mayor Egan — yes. The motion to adjourn carried unanimously. The council indicated the regular meeting would begin at 5:00 p.m.
