District staff presented a design that reuses several existing structures and adds new inclusive features such as ramped access to swings, climbing and balance elements, shade canopies and a central green play zone. The plan was developed with input from teachers, students and the consultant the district used for other playground work. Staff said merging the two spaces improves supervision, provides more usable green space, and addresses drainage issues by regrading low, muddy areas.
Procurement and schedule
Staff recommended using GameTime equipment under the statewide bid program (MiDEAL), which the district said does not require additional bids. The board was told the package can be installed over the summer alongside other playground projects if the board approves the plan at the meeting.
Board action and votes
A motion to approve the Cedar Trails playground proposal for $299,929.60 passed by roll call vote. Staff said the district will coordinate installation timing with other playground projects and provide warranty details after final selections are confirmed.
