Christina Mosher, president of the FM High School Home and School Association (HSA), asked the Board of Education to partner with HSAs and the League of Women Voters to make the recent Meet‑the‑Candidates forum more broadly available to the community.
Mosher said the forum—which the HSA coordinated with the League—was professionally recorded and moderated, invited all candidates equally, and used questions developed from a community survey. She said the HSA paid $75 for the recording plus a facilities fee and that the group’s distribution reach is limited; Mosher requested help from the district to share the recorded video on official district channels, suggested co‑hosting future forums and asked that the district consider waiving the recording/facility charges for this nonpartisan event.
Mosher said the HSA is willing to work with district counsel to address any legal concerns about the recording’s distribution, including potential issues under open‑meetings law or perceptions of endorsement. She provided board members with a flyer and QR code linking to the recording and asked the district to consider creative options such as posting a recording with a clear disclaimer.
Board members thanked Mosher for organizing the event and for presenting the request. The board did not take an immediate vote or make a formal commitment during the meeting; trustees asked staff to review options and legal considerations and Mosher offered to continue coordinating logistics with the district.
Why this matters: Candidate forums are an established contact point between voters and prospective board members. The request raises a procedural question about whether and how a school district’s official channels should host nonpartisan, candidate‑forum recordings and whether facility or recording fees should be waived for HSA‑led events.
