Facilities committee previews May capital proposition, RISE project work continues at IHS and Lakeview

District facilities leaders updated the board on Feb. 27 about the RISE capital project, building-maintenance priorities and planning steps for a May voter proposition.
The RISE project remains active at Iroquois (work on the pedestrian bridge between Dayton High School and the Iroquois library) and in the Lakeview renovation to establish a future District Early-Intervention/Integrated Services (DUEIS) facility. Architects from CPL are developing the district master plan and working with the committee on energy and performance-contract reviews.
Facilities members previewed two items they will bring to the board in March: a May proposition mirroring last year’s small capital improvements (targeting roof and mechanical replacements at Briarwood/Elmhurst similar to the recent Brookview work) and regular annual $100,000 projects (this year proposed to replace the sprinkler system and flooring at Seneca Elementary). Committee members also recommended a planned, phased approach to elevator modernizations (electrical and mechanical refreshes, not full replacements) across aging buildings.
In response to a district request, Monroe County Department of Transportation engineers will pursue a non-roundabout alternative at the intersection near Seneca (Saint Paul and Thomas) that emphasizes enhanced signage and other safety measures rather than building a roundabout.
The facilities committee also reported that it will review energy-performance contracts and that the IHS Green Team will present a student-led solar-energy briefing at the committee’s next meeting. Committee leaders said project timing, building-aid schedules and contingent interfund transfers remain items for continued financial planning.
