Monroe 1 BOCES reports smaller administrative budget, campus changes and new programs; superintendent retiring

The presentation, delivered by Monroe 1 representatives including Dan White and local representative Martin Burns, covered both local and state budget outlooks and program developments. Officials said the administrative budget before the board in April is “down a bit this year” compared with recent years and credited cooperative planning with local districts and steering committees for the reduction.
Board members were also told about capital work on the main campus: offices and the business office are being moved out of the Foreman Center to free space for classroom and program expansion. Presenters said classroom space has been difficult to find and the office relocations are intended to increase the district’s capacity to provide instructional programs.
On staffing, Monroe 1 officials said districts have struggled in recent years but “we’re finally starting to see that break a little bit,” allowing modest program expansion. The presentation named two new programs coming on line at the BOCES campus: Human Performance and Exercise Science, and Interactive Media and Game Design.
Board members used the visit to recognize Dan White. Several directors thanked White for years of service; Board remarks noted his 16 years in the role and described a thorough superintendent-search process led with BOCES support, including guidance from Kevin McDonald. The board said stakeholder input through surveys and in-person meetings informed the search and that an appointment was expected to be announced soon; the new superintendent was described as scheduled to start July 1.
