On heat policy, the committee reviewed temperature thresholds and mitigation steps. The committee reported an operational threshold of about 82 degrees Fahrenheit for performing mitigating measures in the classroom (for example, turning off lights and electronics) and an 88‑degree threshold at which staff and students would be moved to air‑conditioned spaces if available. The committee noted that, because many district rooms already have air conditioning, the district has options to keep students safe without sending them home.
The committee also discussed a policy on use of artificial intelligence, saying the district plans to update that policy regularly. Committee members said external recommendations will inform the district’s approach, but that the policy must be tailored to local needs and revisited frequently to keep pace with changing technology.
These policies are in refinement and will be run through the district’s legal department before returning to the board for formal consideration, the committee said. No final board votes on these policy items were taken at the meeting.
The board also approved its consent agenda (items 7a through 7k) by voice vote; the motion to approve was moved by Mrs. McDonald and seconded by Mrs. Jenkins with board members responding "aye."
