Board approves permanent graduation policy P-6146, including seal of biliteracy

Board member Doctor Benitez said the policy had been revised in October and that the board had temporarily approved it in the past; adopting it now would put the district on a permanent footing and allow the administration to adjust to state-level changes when necessary.
A motion to approve the graduation requirements policy P-6146 was moved and seconded; the motion carried with recorded yes votes from Doctor Benitez, Miss Downer, Mister Wilcox, Mister Juarez, Miss Colon, Maya Elicker and the meeting chair.
The board noted that adopting the policy formalizes a change the district has been implementing — attaching the biliteracy seal to diplomas — and allows staff to align the policy with future state guidance.
