St. Louis County Council honors organizations that supported county land bank legislation

Councilwoman Webb introduced and the St. Louis County Council adopted Resolution Number 1 on April 29 expressing the county’s gratitude to organizations that supported the land bank legislation the council passed on April 15.

The resolution cites House Bill 2062, which the resolution’s text describes as land bank legislation that became effective August 28, 2024, and notes the county’s authority to establish a land bank agency under that law. The resolution specifically names St. Louis Realtors, Missouri Realtors, the Municipal League of Metro St. Louis, Beyond Housing, the Housing Partnership, Spanish Lake Community Development Corporation, the Center for Community Progress, St. Louis County and the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership.

Council members adopted the resolution by roll call; the clerk announced seven ayes. Following the vote, those representing the named organizations came forward to receive framed copies of the resolution. Councilwoman Webb praised the multi-year, multi-party effort and singled out a coordinator who had led working-group meetings for five years.

Why it matters: the land bank law provides a statutory pathway for a county with more than 1,000,000 inhabitants to create an agency to manage, sell or otherwise dispose of county-owned real property aimed at returning non–revenue-producing parcels to beneficial use.
