The House Committee on Culture, Arts & International Affairs deferred HB663, a bill authorizing a special vehicle license plate commemorating the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, citing limited testimony and apparent lack of strong support from OHA.
Chair Janae Capella noted the committee had received testimony from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs but that "there is not very much testimony and support" for the measure and that "OHA themselves also seem to be not super supportive, at this time." With that, the committee deferred the measure for possible future reconsideration.
No in-person proponents appeared during the hearing, and the committee recorded the deferral without further questions. The committee did not take amendments or a vote to advance the bill during this session. Members indicated the measure could be revisited if further support materializes.
