Mineola senior details pathways, STEM activities and upcoming 'SpongeBob' musical

Jordan Shaver, a senior at Mineola High School, briefed the Mineola Board of Education on March 20 about academic pathways, extracurricular activities and upcoming school events.
Shaver said regents-review classes begin the week of March 31 and encouraged students and families to consult the high school website and ParentSquare for schedules. He outlined pathways available to eighth- through 10th-grade students for the 2025-26 school year, including strands in liberal arts, computer science, cybersecurity, manufacturing, welding and woodworking, education, business and health care. Shaver said he is in the computer-science strand and is taking classes at Nassau Community College this semester while pursuing industry certifications.
Shaver described visits by entrepreneurs and highlighted a presentation from Jared Ebersole, the founder of LechTech, who spoke at a community gathering. "The only thing getting in the way of your success is yourself," Shaver quoted the presenter as saying, and added that students were inspired by the talk.
He also summarized recent student activities: a France trip over February break, the robotics club's regional competition at Hofstra University, an art-society paint night to benefit a local family, the junior-class carnival and prom-preview activities, and the Mineola Macaroni Dinner fundraiser for the Mary Brennan Inn on April 10. Shaver said the DECA club returned from the state career conference in Rochester with awards and that peer-tutoring programs and volunteer activities remain active as exams approach.
On the arts calendar, Shaver noted the high-school production of SpongeBob: The Musical runs March 21 at 7 p.m. and March 22 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.; he said he plays Squidward and encouraged community attendance.
Shaver concluded by thanking staff and organizers and said the student-service center and volunteer groups have been actively supporting community charities.
