Student representative outlines prom and post-prom plans; district will provide transportation

A student board representative described the Class of 2025 prom itinerary and the accompanying post-prom plans, including estimated costs and district-provided transportation.

The student said prom activities will begin with a prom walk at Gloversville High School at 4:30 p.m., the prom itself will run four hours and end at 10:00 p.m., and students will return to GHS at 11:00 p.m. to depart for a post-prom event at The Local in Rotterdam. The post-prom, the student said, is planned for midnight to 3:00 a.m., with a return to GHS at about 3:45–4:00 a.m. for dismissal. “The prom will be 4 hours long. It'll end at 10:00. We'll return to GHS at 11PM, and that's when we'll depart to the local in Rotterdam,” the student said.

The student said the prom venue was changed to Landes On The Lake at no additional cost to the district or the class and outlined on-site activities at The Local including arcade games, escape rooms, laser tag, roller skating, black-light mini golf and a Mario Kart tournament room.

The class’s minimum cost for the Local event was presented as $1,500 for 75 people; the student estimated final attendance between about 88 and 100 students and said the maximum could be 150. The student described an additional charge of $20 per person plus $15 per person for food if attendance exceeds the 75-person minimum; the student said that breaks down to $35 per additional student and that students who skip prom but attend post-prom would pay $20.

When asked during the meeting whether the district would supply busing to the Rotterdam Mall post-prom event, the superintendent confirmed that district transportation will be provided. The student framed post-prom as a safety measure to keep students in a supervised environment.
