Students recognized for Shakespeare, DECA and county art honors

At the high school, Emma Rabideaux recited Shakespeare’s Sonnet 15 after placing in Homer’s Shakespeare recitation competition and taking third place at the regional contest in Syracuse. "She got to work with a professor from Syracuse University..." a staff member said, praising the student’s performance and noting it was the first regional placement since the district revived the competition.
Sage Love described DECA achievements at the state career conference in Rochester. Love said she finished third in a written event among about 60 teams and won election as New York State DECA vice president of communications; she also earned a spot at DECA’s International Career Development Conference in Orlando. “I made a thousand of these,” Love said, describing the paper flowers she made for a campaign display that helped her secure votes.
Art teachers and students invited the board to the Cortland County Imagination Celebration at the Dowd Fine Arts Center at SUNY Cortland and highlighted strong local results in the Scholastic Art Competition: a senior portfolio Gold Key, three Gold Keys for individual pieces, 10 Silver Keys and 23 honorable mentions. Students described recent projects including large paper-crane collaborations and a silk-screening field trip to SUNY Cortland.
The board presented certificates and offered congratulations; the recognitions were presented early in the meeting while budget business followed.
