Resident urges council to scrutinize transit spending, proposed contract study and sidewalk engineering costs

Sullivan questioned a proposed contract for $206,000 to Consilience Group to provide an effectiveness study for the Department of Human Services and said the Council should consider whether that work should be the director's responsibility. "Shouldn't it be the Director's job to develop an effective strategy for the Department? The Council needs to be leery of this proposal," Sullivan said.
He also flagged other correspondence item 15, saying engineering services for a sidewalk had increased by $30,203 to a total of $232,977 and asked whether that amount seemed "a little steep," suggesting the county auditor review it. Sullivan raised concerns about a large funding figure he described as "$200,000,000 for Biostate," expressed support for maintaining the county's current sales-tax split, and urged hiring an auditor or public-transit officer to oversee Metro operations.
Sullivan framed his comments as citizen oversight: "To take $100,000 from the $200,000,000 and hire an auditor or public transit officer makes a lot of sense," he said, adding that council members make decisions without always being fully informed about transit operations.
The council did not take action during the meeting in response to Sullivan's remarks; his comments were entered into the public forum record.
