The Linden City Council adjourned tonight after officials determined the council chamber had exceeded its posted occupancy limit.
The Fire Official reminded the room that “the occupancy code…It's a 181 people,” and said only those seated were compliant with the occupancy rule. After repeated announcements urging those standing to leave the aisles, Councilman Strano said, citing the unlawful occupation and capacity exceedance, “at this time, due to the unlawful occupation, capacity exceedance in this room, I move to adjourn this meeting.” The motion was seconded by Council member Ormond.
The clerk called the roll for the adjournment motion. Council members recorded on the roll-call as voting yes were: Ormond; Javec; Caldwell; Mohammed; Delgado; Strano; Armstead; Rodriguez; Huda; and Yamakaitis. The motion carried and the council president declared the meeting adjourned.
An excused absence was recorded for Remus earlier in the meeting. Officials closed the meeting citing safety and fire-code compliance rather than substantive action on the ordinances that had been scheduled for tonight’s vote.
