Residents tell Jefferson County Council of persistent nuisance at Schneider Hill road

Two Schneider Hill residents used the public comment period to urge Jefferson County officials to address what they described as a long-running public nuisance and safety concern.

"They have a generator over there that runs continuously," Thomas Brown told the council, describing a nearby property where a neighbor lives in a camper and where he said there are multiple RVs and derelict vehicles.

Brown said the property also contains an improvised fire pit and that he and his family fear a fire risk; Brown said his family has lived on the road since 1949. "If that thing were to catch fire, we potentially would have, you know, first responders at risk, my family at risk," he said.

Louis (Louis) Davis, who identified himself as living at 466 Schneider Hill, said he had called police the previous night after two people from the camper trespassed on his property. "Last night, I even had to call the cops because, 2 people that went to, the camper were trespassing on my property," Davis said.

Brown said he had previously raised the issue with county staff (he named Mitch Barra) and said staff had indicated an effort was underway, but that he had not seen enforcement results. The meeting record shows the comments were received during the public comment portion of the council's agenda; no formal enforcement action or vote was taken during the meeting.

The council did not take formal action during the meeting. The public comment ended and the council moved on to agenda business, including approval of the agenda and multiple resolutions and ordinances.
