Now, therefore, I, Terry Adams, Judge Executive of Letcher County, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, 04/02/2025 as World Autism Awareness Day, and April 1 through April 30 as National Autism Acceptance Month." He told attendees that copies of the proclamation are available in his office.
A representative identified in the meeting as Benny said Mountain-area health provider MCHC is planning a new autism center just outside Whitesburg. Benny said the project is in the design phase and will be submitted to the state for approval; he estimated the facility would likely take about two years before it opens. He described applied behavior analysis (ABA) as the initial service planned and said the center could help local schools and families who currently travel to Vanderbilt, Cincinnati or Louisville for services.
Court members thanked the proclamation presenters and acknowledged the local need for autism services and support. No formal vote was recorded on the proclamation; the proclamation was read into the record by the judge executive and copies were made available to attendees.
