Brandywine recognizes Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids with inaugural Community Partner Award

At the March meeting the Brandywine School District presented its inaugural Community Partner Award to Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids in recognition of a long-running school garden and nutrition education program.
District officials praised the program for more than 15 years of work at multiple schools, including Mount Pleasant, Forward, Lombardi, Hamby, Carcroft and Springer Middle School. The district said the program offers hands-on lessons tied to grade-level science curricula and gives students opportunities to grow, harvest and taste vegetables they helped cultivate.
"Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids provides innovative and hands-on lessons tailored specifically to each grade," the board said during the presentation, noting that the program deepens science learning and fosters healthy eating habits.
The district said the program is unique within Delaware and highlighted partnerships with school alumni and community volunteers that helped raise funds and expand activities. Board members invited the community to applaud the group for its contributions to student learning and wellness.
