Superintendent reviews Panorama survey results and plans for annual middle-school visitation day

The superintendent presented the district's annual Panorama survey results and several district-program updates during the monthly report to the Board of Education.
The Panorama instrument, developed in collaboration with the Harvard Graduate School of Education and administered with assistance from the Delaware MTSS Technical Assistance Center at the University of Delaware, collects data on school climate, belonging, teaching and learning and, for secondary grades, classroom learning strategies and cultural-awareness topics. The superintendent reported the district increased student-survey response rates to 82.3 percent. He said the area with the greatest increase was student personal wellness, which rose 7 points from fall 2023 to reach 85 percent.
Officials also said three survey areas required rewording for fourth- and fifth-grade students to improve clarity; the revised items were pilot tested and will form a baseline for next year. The superintendent described the fall Panorama as the district's baseline year for those revised questions.
The report highlighted BSD's inaugural middle-school visitation day on Dec. 15, when all three BSD middle schools (PS DuPont, Springer and Talley) opened to families for tours and demonstrations; district officials said feedback was positive and the district plans to hold the event annually and earlier in the school-choice calendar. The superintendent also mentioned that elementary basketball league play continues and congratulated Brandywine student Leah Norton on nominations to multiple U.S. service academies.
Board members accepted the report as part of the superintendent's monthly update; no formal board action was taken on the survey results during the meeting.
